Trailerz movie app
From August of 2022 to January of 2023 I worked on Trailerz which is an app that allows users to view trailers, select movie times and add snacks and refreshments to their order for a one stop shop for movie goers. For this project I served as lead UX designer where I conducted interviews, completed paper and digital wire-framing, conducted usability studies where I accounted for accessibility, iterated on those designs and then completed low and high fidelity prototypes.

Challenge
The goal for this project was to design an app that would allow users to view trailers and then also make purchases for movie tickets as well as refreshments with out needing to be redirected to another site.
Solution
Design an interface that visually organizes data, and presents relevant options to personalize the user experience, saving time spent searching.

Design Process
Paper wire-frames
Taking the time to draft iterations of each screen of the app on paper ensured that the elements that made it to digital wire-frames would be well-suited to address user pain points. For the home screen I wanted initially to have trailers right away, but instead opted for a welcoming message to the app.

Early on I had it set up so that users could just select the snacks or refreshments they wanted but as I found out through testing, some users did not want to add on refreshments and needed an option to bypass this screen.

Lo-fi Prototype
The initial user flow had allowed users to select a trailer then view show times and select seats and snacks before receiving confirmation and a thank you message.

Usability Study: Findings
I conducted two rounds of usability studies. Findings from the first study helped guide the designs from wireframes to mockups. The second study used a high-fidelity prototype and revealed what aspects of the mockups needed refining.

Mockups

Hi-Fi Prototype
The app gives users an easy way to view trailers and then make additional purchases should they chose. This app helps to streamline the movie goers experience from start to finish.

I learned a lot about what users want in an app and some things they didn’t want that I thought were helpful, such as the seating chart, I thought that would be helpful, but users didn’t seem to particularly care one way or the other.
